Back Up Your School Files and Data

Assignments, projects, and tutorial guides are some of the important files to each and every student. As computers are growing more prominent to get work done, almost everything is stored on the machine itself. Despite the technological advancement of laptops and computers, they are still prone to problems such as OS corruption, hardware failure, and virus infection. That is why it is important and a good practice to constantly back up important work. Below are some of the common backup options:-

a) External hard drive/USB flash drive - External hard drive and USB flash drive are

more affordable nowadays and they come with huge capacity. The portable storage

devices in the market nowadays support USB 3.0 standard which has faster

read/write speeds. Some hard disks come with password encryption utilities. It is

advisable to set password to protect the contents of your hard disks from

    unauthorised access.

b) Cloud storage - Dropbox and Google Drive offer cloud storage where files may be

accessed from anywhere with internet access. It is a convenient file backup and

    storage method.

c) Optical disc storage - This is less common these days as most ultra slim computers

do not have DVD drives built-in. The plus point of optical disc media is that these can

be read on any computer with compatible optical disc drives (CD/DVD-ROM). Optical

discs are compact and they can be labelled with a soft tip, non-erasable marker and

stored easily. Take care not to scratch the surface of the disc when labelling -

scratches may render the disc unreadable.
