Rootkit Removal Tips

Rootkit is a software which gains access to your computer without your consent or knowledge.
A rootkit virus allows a cyber criminal to run files, monitor logs and change configurations
on your computer for malicious intent.

Below are some symptoms of a Rootkit infection.

  • Your computer often locks out and does not respond from the mouse or keyboard

  • Your Windows settings change without reason such as the taskbar hiding itself

  • Web pages or network activities appear to be intermittent

If you suspect your computer is infected, download a Rootkit Removal Freeware such as Kaspersky TDSSKiller or Hitman Pro 3 to scan and clean your computer.

Backup Your Work

The data on your notebook or computer is susceptible to data loss or corruption due to vibration, virus infection or prolonged usage. Therefore, it is important to back up your school work, programs and personal data regularly.

  • A copy of your latest data files such as programs' documents, photos and videos should be stored on a USB storage regularly

  • As programs could not be copied, the installers of the programs should be stored on a USB storage, together with their product key or serial number

  • Important documents such as school projects or assignments should be zipped and sent to email as a secondary backup
