Ransomware: How to Protect Yourself

Ransomware is a type of malware which lock/encrypt your computer or important digital files in your computer. The culprits will then demand payment to remove the malware from your computer. Here’s how you can protect yourself from malware:

  1. Back Up Your Data Regularly
    Periodically back up your important data (such as assignments, projects, official documents) on an external storage to limit the impact of data loss.

  2. Be Wary of Emails
    Do not open any attachment from emails that seemed suspicious. The embedded program from the attachment will execute malware on your computer. Same goes for URLs which are given in the email. Check with the sender before clicking on any hyperlinks.

  3. Update Your Operating System and Security Software
    Keep your operating system up-to-date with the latest software updates. Also, do ensure that your security software is patched every now and then to reduce vulnerabilities.

For Year 1 Students,

You may download the software required for your respective course at NP Software Portal.

Select ‘Download’ to proceed. There are download guides provided to assist your download process after you have selected your course on the Download page.

For Year 2 and 3 students,
You may download your course software in MeL.

Login to MeL >> Go to My NP >> Under Tools, click on Announcements.

In Announcements, look for the article - “Software Download”.
Download and installation guides for software such as Microsoft products, Autodesk, MatLab, SAP Client etc. are listed in the article for your reference.
